System requirements
- RivEX is designed to run in ESRI ArcGIS 9.1 on a Windows Microsoft Operating System (Windows 2000 or XP). RivEX does not require the expensive network extension to run. It will run under the minimum standard ArcView license.
- RivEX is developed using ArcGIS 9.1. Users who have upgraded to version ArcGIS 9.3 have reported that RivEX runs without error. The Author of RivEX does not own a copy of ArcGIS 9.3 and is unable to develop RivEX to support the new data formats or functionality that the newest version offers. The Author will be unable to help with any issues specific to ArcGIS 9.3.
- Some users report that RivEX runs successfully in ArcMap running on the 64bit version of the Windows operating system. Please be aware the Author cannot provide support for this environment as he does not own a copy of this operating system.
- Users have reported successfully using RivEX in ArcGIS 9.3.1 on Windows XP, VISTA and Windows 7. Please note the Author will endeavour to provide support for all platforms but will be unable to replicate issues specific to these platforms so support may be limited.
- Users have reported successfully using RivEX in ArcGIS 10 on Windows 7. You will need VBA installed and licensed. There appears to be a cosmetic issue with a password box appearing for some users which can be ignored b pressing cancel. The Author will endeavour to provide support for all platforms but will be unable to replicate issues specific to these platforms so support may be limited.
- RivEX has been developed in VBA and sits within an ArcMap document file. Customisation of this document file has been turned off so you will be unable to customise the document whilst RivEX is running. This is to protect the source code.
- With the release of version 3, RivEX was capable of connecting directly to MS Excel to transfer data. This requires you to have at least Microsoft Office XP installed. RivEX uses automation to access the Excel code library installed by Office. Click here to view a full listing of the DLLs required by RivEX to run.
- RivEX is provided with a license file called "RivEX_License.rlf" and this must be in the same directory as the "RivEX Tool.mxd file". You must be able to write to your C:\ drive.
- RivEX will not run in ArcGIS 8.3 or less, nor is it compatible with ArcView 3.x
- RivEX will process data which is in the format of Shapefile or a Geodatabase FeatureClass. Polyline, PolylineM and PolylineZ data are all supported.
- If you are running this tool with an ArcView license you should be aware that you will not be able to stream order a Geodatabase FeatureClass that participates in a geometric network. This is because your license does not allow you to alter the schema of such datasets. This is not a limitation of the RivEX tool but your ArcGIS license.
