Properties of the whole river network
- RivEX can analyse the basic properties of a river network.
- The whole network is included in this analysis, the output does not differentiate between catchments.
- To compute the basic properties you must complete the parameters section of the main interface and press build to construct the dictionaries used to analyse the river network.

- Select the Analyse Network tab, tick the Basic properties checkbox and start the process by clicking on Go!
- Once the process has finished, you will be asked where to direct the output as shown below

- Select YES sends the output to MS Excel. The Excel application will minimise when data transfer has completed, do not click on the window until this has happened!
- Select NO sends the output to a dbase file called Basic_Network_Properties.dbf stored in C:\RivEX\Output. If this file exists already you will be asked to overwrite it.
- The basic properties of the network extracted are:
- Number of polylines in the network
- Total number of vertices in the network
- Minimum polyline length
- Maximum polyline length
- Sum polyline length
- Mean polyline length
- Number of Nodes
- Number of Mouths
- Number of Sources
- Number of Pseudo nodes
- Number of nodes with valency X*
- Number of interior links
- Number of exterior links
- Number of outlet links
* = This row will expand to however many required depending upon the largest valency.
