How to install/Upgrade RivEX
On this page you can find advice on installing or upgrading RivEX.
Installing RivEX for the first time
RivEX is very simple to install. You will be sent a compressed file (zip file) via email. Using File Explorer you must create 2 new folders.
- First you create a new folder on your C:\ called RivEX.
- Secondly you create a sub folder called C:\RivEX\Output.
- Thirdly you uncompress ("unzip") the supplied files into C:\RivEX.
- Your directory structure should look the same as the image below.

- RivEX is composed of five files:
- RivEX_Tool.mxd = The ArcMap document containing RivEX.
- RivEX_License.rlf = The license file locking RivEX to your registered computer.
- ErrorDB.xml = The error database for RivEX, it contains a list of all errors that RivEX can generate.
- RivEX_ErrorDB.dtd = The Document Type Definition file required by ErrorDB.xml.
- RivEX_License.dtd = The Document Type Definition file required by RivEX_License.rlf.
- Whilst the folders you create must exist, the location of the MXD, RLF, DTD and XML files do not have to be in C:\RivEX. The five files must be in the same directory as each other and you can only run the tool for the licensed machine. It is recommended that you install RivEX and its associated files in C:\RivEX.
